I have finally got my first fallow deer cape. Its 12 months old but has been salted and folded all that time.
I have recieved a few different catalogs from the states and have seen many wonderful looking forms.
I am wondering though, with the pedestal and wall pedestal mounts which of these would you you recomend to someone new to these types of forms?
Or - should i just stay away from these all together?
(i'm thinking i have to try one sooner or later - they look so beautiful).
Also (while im here), Iv'e read in the archs and understand i have to tan 'before' measuring for a good measurement and i can put the tanned cape in the freezer until tanning.
Is there a time limit as to how long a tanned cape can stay in the freezer? (ie - the time it will take for a form to arrive from the states). Some replys in the archs contradicted each other.
One last thing - does anyone sell a kangaroo pedestal form - like the red fox ones i have seen? I cant find one here (of all places).

"tanned cape in the freezer until"...should be mounting. lol.
Samantha, If you feel comfortable with a standard shoulder mount then by all means try the wall pedestal mount. It is very pleasing to look at and a little different. I have a fallow wall pedestal mount in my shop and it really adds to the room. The only tricky thing is that due to the offside weight, placeing the hanger requires more thought. You must put the hanger as near the weight center as possible and as high on the back board as you can to get stable security. There are special hangers made for these forms but they are not required. I use a saw toothed hanger. Table pedestals are very nice too and I encourage you to do one but I think the wall pedestal is my favorite for a fallow. As for storing a tanned cape in a freezer, they will keep for several years at least. Maybe a lifetime if they stay frozen. I have several "extra" capes that have been tanned and frozen for over 5 years and they are perfectly fine. I can't help you with the roo form but good luck with your search and enjoy, Aaron H.
Want a Roo Form? Cast one...create a mount/...then make and sell the forms to the other taxidermists 'Down Under' looking for the same thing...which YOU will be the FIRST to provide in Australia...if not the World. "If you can Think it...you can DO it".

I would imagine you might be able to find a roo form close enough to what you have. Making a pedistal out of it is as simple as picking up a saw and cutting it. That way you will have more control over the pose or direction its facing. It really is that easy. You have to learn to be like the Nike slogan " Just Do It"
