This may sound stupid to you guys, but I am just getting started in taxidermy. My question is how do you remove the horns of a horned animal and then how do you keep them safe from bug infestations. Also another question I have is I want to mount a grey fox with it's mouth open leaping up in the air like it is after something, but I can not find a form for a grey fox. How do I change the mouth setting? Is there a place that I can buy another mouth form and attach it to the fox form or do I need to make this mouth form? And if I need to make it then how do I do this? I would appreciate all the feed back that I can get. Thanks.

I meant to say that I can't find a form like I want in a grey fox category. Sorry guys. Bad typing skills. :)
well first of all if you did your homework you wouldn't need to ask a ? about releasing the horns from the skull. All u need 2 do is press the search button to the left and type in the ? You'll find a whole bunch of answers 2 your ?. Anyway, about your fox, if you can't find a leaping fox with the mouth open their are a few options- find a leaping fox with the mouth closed and convert 2 a open mouth. Or you could cast the foxes body to make your own mannikin. Finally, Van Dykes carries a leaping coyote mannikin (it won in a live sculpter Taxidermy Competition) your probaly going 2 need 2 shave it down a bit though. GOOD LUCK BECKY! LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES!
....Before you try to run. If you are just starting, you need to pick out a simple walking or running form that will fit your fox. CLOSED MOUTH! Remodeling any form is WAY beyond where you are right now.
DAVID, what kind of idiot are you? A coyote cut down for a grey fox? Body casting for a newbie?
Becky, being new at this, you need to tackle projects that you can have some success with. Keep the project simple and make sure that you have some experience with some smaller projects, like squirrels, before doing the fox. Remember, even a simple form that matches the measurements of your animal, will not fit exactly and will need work. Don't bite off more than you can chew, until you are ready for it.
stop being a dick guys and answer the question.
.....If you think trying to make a grey fox out of a coyote is such a great idea, I'd like to see you explain just exactly how it can be done. That is, so a beginner, like Becky can put it to use. If body casting and form making were a simple matter, there would be no supply companies selling forms. Easier yet would be to carve the body out of blue foam, but I still wouldn't recommend that to a beginner. She stated that she is a beginner, her questions made it very clear that she is a beginner and I gave her the proper advise for a beginner. If you can offer better advise, LET'S HEAR IT!
Alter a coyote into a fox and a gray on top of it yet! lol I had another taxidermist [ who has been at it for 7 years] stop in here and wanted me to show him how to TURN the head on a bobcat form.If he had trouble with that . How do you expect a newbie to change a coyote to a fox? I have been doing this for over 30 years and I wouldn't even consider changing a coyote to a g. fox.
I am trying to get started in taxidermy but can't seem to get in answers in Fl.I understand i don't need a taxidermy permit or license except for migratory birds, but what about exotic animals or a fur license.also what is the truth as far as roadkill foxes, legal or no?
