Walrus skull

I had a customer bring in a walrus skull for cleaning, (yes,it is tagged and legal), I have soaked it but the tusks are still very tight. Should I boil it or what is the trick to get them out?

You are not going to get them out.

The reason I asked the question was he was told in Alaska (where he lived at the time) that they would come out and when reattached they could be moved down several inches to make them longer.

Teeth in general

I have always noticed that when the skull is very dry, the teeth tend to fall out easier. Same with horns over their cores... so maybe you could clean it as normal, then let it dry out really well and try again.
