Need some suggestions on my next step for dealing with a taxidermist? Last year I shot a mule deer in Wyoming. I took the deer to a processing facility. The facility also offered taxidermy services so I thought I would take them up on their offer. I left the required deposit and I was told that I would be contacted when the shoulder mount was done. Well I received a letter from the taxidermist and it stated my mount was complete and I needed to send the balance due. Therefore not wanting to delay receiving my mount I immediately purchased a money order and sent it out. After not receiving any information as to the status of the shipment of my mount, I then emailed the taxidermist and advised him that if he had not sent the mount yet? then don't due to the fact I was headed to Wyoming to hunt around Oct 1st. I was advised via email that he had not sent the mount. I advised him I would pick up the mount on my way and save on shipping. Once I arrived in his town I called him. I was advised that the mount was at his residence and not at the processing plant and that it would take him about an hour to get the mount. Therefore I waited over an hour then called him back. The taxidermist became apologetic over the phone and advised that he made a mistake and that the mount was not quite finished and that he would ship it to my residence in Michigan. He also stated he would pay the shipping? Heres the problem that was Oct 1st, 2003 it is now the end of the month and I have sent him two emails none of which he responded to. This person is licensed by Wyoming and does have a web site posted here. I don't want to start "bashing" him although I would like some sense of feeling that he does have my mount "horns" and "Cape"and just made an honest mistake? Any suggestions on getting this accomplished without being a Jerk? Any suggestions on a next step?

Give it a shot, Tell him you understand people get under pressure and do the wrong thing even tho' it seems right, so many people tell you what you want to hear and not the truth, tell him if you can thru letter or e or phone , you just want to get this taken care of and you don't need an answer of what happened or a story about the problems with it. Give him a feeling of being able to be honest without pressure and you'll see how easily it will be to deal with people stuck between a rock and a hard place.
