Hello, I had a client bring me a Pronghorn Antelope a couple weeks ago that he had Frozen from last year. I caped the 'lope then I put the horns (on the skull cap) in a bag to rot off. I have done this many times and it has worked for me for 12 years. Well these horns won't come off. The horns and cap seem a touch dry, so I added a cup of water to the bag and still no loosening. They smell rotten, but there is no give in them, 3 weeks have passed.(Too long)
Any ideas of remedy? I may have to cut the horns off the skull and drill out the core.?.
Thanks for responses.

i had the same exact problem and put them in the micro=wave on high for 3 mins. and they came right off.
Drill some small holes in the base of the horns, at the back where they won't be obvious, then soak in the water for a couple of days. Then take out, put in the bag with the skull upside down, and should be able to pull them off within a week if the weather stays nice.
Also, it won't hurt them to soak longer in the h20, until they just slip off.
But those holes will help the water get in past the freeze dried skin at the base of the horns. Holes can be filled w/apoxie sculpt and painted over.
for the responses. I will try the water first, then if needed I will wait until my wife is gone for a day and use her microwave.hehehehe
Thanks again for the ideas.
