"puckered hide on tight mount?

Submitted by Virgil on 10/13/2003. ( ) 66.218.23.156

Just finished my first wall pedestal (white-tail). Cape fit was extremely tight. 7 1/4 x 22" commercial (wet) tanned cape on McKenzie 7 1/4 x 22" wall pedestal form. Managed to get cape sewed up w/ some struggling. Mount looks great except for "lines" or "rings" in the hair pattern below the neck. I think I can feel some small "puckers/wrinkles" in the cape @ these areas. Any suggestions on how to work these out? Thanx - Virgil

It all depends

If you used an epoxy glue. It may be too late as the glue sets in a short time. If you used a water based glue. You can fix it. What has happened is the cape pulled itself up toward the smaller part of the neck to make the fit. aif the cape sits tightly sewn. It stretches a bit so if not epoxied. you can un-staple the base, and work it down and smooth the wrinkles then re staple it.

You may also be able to malletize the wrinkles.

George invented the work malletized.

Use a rubber mallet to tap the wrinkles out a hammer may also be used with lighter pressure.
