Caribou Cape a little bloody/dirty

Submitted by Cory Smith on 10/14/2003. ( cenins@daktel.com ) 66.163.147.43

Just returned from Newfoundland with a Woodland Caribou...The Cape was washed and salted and is still moist...Can I get the blood out of the cape before it goes to the tannery? The mane and the white portion of the cape is a little blood stained and dirty...

Cory, I would not wash it. Best to dry quickly to guard against slippage. Blood will usually be removed by the pickle during tanning. If you are talking about a real bad looking area you could use some windex sprayed directly on the blood area and wipe off with a towel, do this a couple of times and then pour fresh salt into the hair there, rub well and shake out. This works for me on blood soaked areas but unless it's a lot of blood I would just salt well and send it out. Enjoy, Aaron H.
