i have a moose head that a customer brought me with badly split ears and the Y incision split about 2 inches apart. i was wondering about rehydrating the hide? also, in the last issue of the Breakthrough mag. Larry Blomquist wrote an article about a new product called tech-bond;I thought that might work good on the ears. I would appretiate any and all thoughts. Thanks to all

50 year old mount will not soften enough to change anything. Epoxy or bondo the split ears. Then use superglue to bring together the very edges of those split ears.
Cut some of the hide off the back of the form. Use this to fill in the 2" gap at the "Y". Trim the hair patches to match the surroundings.
Blend all repairs with airbrush(I prefer waterbase paints for this, such as Timberline from Research or some of Don Holts paints)
Another option is to cut up a scrap cape and use it to patch the old mount. You can even replace the ears on the old mount, and that's not as scary or as hard as it might sound.
You can dye some forehead skin from a deer cape and use this to patch that 2" gap.
And of coarse you can always get a new form and cape.
Last but not least, you could mount some beaver teeth in the ol'moose and then nobody would even notice those ratty ears.
