Submitted by BEN on 11/20/2003. ( ) 209.174.133.195

Tomorrow is the first day of deer season and it is supposed to be around 75 degress.
I am planning on mounnting a shoulder mount and i was wondering what i should do to preserve the hide?
I have salt but i dony know if i should put it on or not? and i might want to set in the stand longer so what should i do then?

sorry for the bother

with the info you gave us we don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. Are you talking about how to take care of your buck you are planning to shoot until you get him to a taxidermist? Are you a taxidermist and you are planning to hunt and don't know what to do with the deer that is laying on your shop floor which needs to be mounted up? Give us detailed info on what you need to know.

Seems to me

he means he wants to know what to do with a deer if/when he shoots one. If so, if you shoot a deer and it's 75 outside, you'd better get it field dressed, checked and take it to a taxidermist ASAP! The hide will ruin long before the meat will. IF you know how to cape one out, and the deer doesn't have to be checked where you live, and you won't be able to go anywhere for awhile, by all means cape it and salt it. Wouldn't hurt to take a cooler with ice and put it in there. 75 degrees will ruin one in a hurry!

Good luck with your hunt!

Congrats on your deer!

Don't be too hard on Superpig. From what I've read, she seems to be a great person and has helped out several on here. To be honest, the line "I am planning on mounnting a shoulder mount and i was wondering what i should do to preserve the hide?" could be somewhat confusing. Are you actually mounting the deer, or are you taking it to a taxidermist? Either way, it sounds like you got a nice deer! I'm jealous!

=)

that's why I quit giving anyone advice here. Because of dumba$$es like you. Maybe you need to go back to school and learn how to communicate better so people know what the freakin heck you are talking about.
