Im new to taxidermy, ive done severl deer, fox , coyote. Im wondering how you guys flesh the face and head are of an elk, i usually go through all the steps, split everything, turn everything, take big chunks of meat of, and i dont really want to get aggressive with it because i dont want any holes in the face area,is there a secret to all of this, i mean deer are easy, not that big, but elk are a diff story, an elk face is almost as big as a deer cape.lol, just wonder what you guys do to cut time on it.

You can really pull the skin thin when fleshing with a beam on skife knife.
if you know how to flesh a deer face you'll have no trouble with an elk. Same thing just bigger. Do it exactly like you would on your deer and you'll be fine. If it takes too long to do in one setting put it in the freezer or fridge for a couple of hours and then continue. You'll get the hang of it in time.
the one thing that amazed me on my first elk was the tear ducts, there huge i used a broom handle and skifed them real thin dremel out the form with a one eight bit one inch long and one inch deep you will need a slot this big for all the duct skin.
