Warthog Tusk

Submitted by John on 01/19/2004. ( jmd4419@aol.com ) 205.188.209.73

After you removing the tusks from the jaw, the tusk appear to be two toned. the half that was in the jaw is pure white and the other is stained heavy. Obviously, you can't mount it like this, so what can be used to remove the heavy stain on the half of the tusks?
thanks

Why Not?

If you are going to position the tusks properly, only the stained parts will show anyway. If you try to position them differently in a head mount the tusks and the whets will not match up. Now if you are just mounting the tusks, that is another matter. Clean them up, but it would be a mistake to try to get a uniform white color. The stain can go pretty deep into the tusk. They are, what they are, warthog tusks.

John: you will not be able to remove the stains.when you mount it you can pull the tusks out more if it is a young pig,is up to you.
Be sure to fill the tusks with bondo or they will crack.
