The shield is a fatty grisly. It is not fun to get off as you will find out. Some like the fleashing machine for it. I like to cut a grid patern and then get up under it. Either way it is a lot of work!

God Bless

The shield on a boar is a thick, sometimes as much as 2 inches ,calcium deposit built up on each shoulder of a boar. This to to protect the boar from cuts made by other boars while fighting.

you might want to go to TaxidermyReference.com, and get Mark's phone number. Call him and ask him about using Hard-Tissue Tonic as an aid in removing wild boar shields.

I haven't tried it yet but a friend told me that he cuts it in a grid pattern, then hangs it off the side of his bench then felet it off. says it comes off like butter. Could work, maybee. Good luck.

do as the upper post and then use an old timey draw knife/blade. when the blade is sharp it will work very good.
