developer question can't find in archives

I recently had someone tell me that instead of making a paste out of Basic White and developer, he just put straight developer in a bag and covered the skull. He said the skulls came out very white. I can't find anything like this in the archives and was wondering if I misinterpreted what he said. I did find one archive article that mentioned developer only for 4-6 hours, not overnight. I have always mixed mine, but the Basic White is very expensive and if developer does it by itself, I don't want to waste money on the powder. Any experiences with just developer?

Are you giving the bleached skulls away?

Basic White is hardly expensive if you build it into your costs. Developer is simply hydrogen peroxide and it CAN bleach but hardly to the effect that Basic White or Magnesium carbonate enhances it to.

If basic white is too expensive

Than Go to another manufacture. Clairol Markets basic white at around $25.00 for a 1 pound container, A quart of 40 developer, Is about $6.00 You can go to a beauty supply store. and buy Salon Care Quick white for $15.00 and a gallon of Salon Care 40 Developer for $9.00. The one I go to Gives professional beauticians an additional discount. I tell them I am a professional Taxidermist. And they give me the same discount. One pound Quick White, and a Gallon of 40 volume developer cost me $21.00 and some change. It give me the same results.

It adds up.

Sometimes I have had to whiten the skull more than once to get it "white". This leads to only getting about 3-4 skulls out of the Basic White and Developer which adds up to about $30. When I saw someone's skull, which was whiter than mine come out, and he said he only uses developer, I thought why use Basic White if I could get whiter skulls w/o it. Just wanted to check it out. Thanks for the input. I'll go back to using B.W.
