Lately I have not been leaving any membrain around the eye to tuck under the lid. I use the LAY METHOD. My question is will the eye lid lift over time or is the two part sculpt I use to finish the eye going to pervent this? I use hide paste , pin the area around the eye and just brush the lid against the hardened clay lid. No tucking
P.S-- Just as a note I tried using crazy glue and soon found out that it leaves a residue that is hard to get off the glass eye.....live and learn
Thank to all who are so kind to reply.

Lay method, huh? I didn't know there was a name for it! I use to use clay, but now I form Apoxie Sculpt around the eye and use Epo-Grip to hold the hide to it. I use this method on every mammal I mount. I have been doing it this way for going on 5 years, and have had no problems yet.
I usuly tuck my eyes. But with 4 sometimes 5 people fleshing and turning hides. some of the guys do not leave the inner eye lid, as they prefer the "lay Method" I have done many both ways, and My son in law does them all that way. Once they are dry, that is where the lids will stay. Finishing with Apoxie sculpt locks them in.
Thank you for your help,
SM
Been using it for about seven years now. I use Critter clay and good glue then Magic Sculpt on finish work.
I can say for sure that you are going to have problems. Learn to do it the right way. It takes no longer to do it right than do it the wrong way. Shave them and tuvk them. Good Luck
I lay the lids also, just make sure to use a quality adhesive. I use a mixture of my own on the eyes, lay yhe lids in place and pin them. I usually wont remove the pins for atleast 4 days, and usually dont have any areas around the eye to fill in except the front corners,I always seem to get alittle spot there that needs filled.
I would Like to ask you a Question. Although I respect your right to your opinion, Just who ever said that the tuck method was right, and the lay method wrong? Experienced, successful, and renowned Taxidermist world over, have used both methods for decades. With the same results. With knowledge, Skill, and the proper use of materials, either method can be done properly. Even in competition mounts. what is right, and what is not. Is only applicable to ones skill level.
