painted on the white patch on a deers neck? The deer Im working on has gray horizontal lines on the white patch. The deer has no cut hair no wrinkles under the skin no sewing there. Ive tried taxing the skin around every direction and still can't hide those spots. I asked the customer for a picture and the picture doesn't show them. Of course in the pictue the deer is relaxed and the hide isn't stretched out. I showed the deer to him last night and he thought it looked ok. Quite frankly I think it looks like sh$t though. What do I do?

FUBAR, Painting in the hair is very common practice when dealing with thin-haired critters such as hogs and African species. I often touch up in the hair on deer but sparingly. A little may help but too much just looks painted. Possibly this is a result of slight hair loss in the throat area. Usually I can hide this problem by "stacking" the hair a little closer. If you can't hide it and the customer isn't bothered by it I don't see the problem. Remember that every deer can not turn out as good as your best- some will always turn out better than others. Enjoy, Aaron H.
Go to your local beauty shop ask if the have or can get a product called Basic White and 40 volume hydrogen peroxide mix these two to the conistancy of tooth paste, brush on w/ small paint brush tapering edges in thickness. Try to check it after a few minutes (maybe 15) to see if the color matches yet. Dont get this stuff on anything you dont want white! You can also purchase both of these products from Van Dykes. Good Luck
We just had this discussion a few weeks back on paint vs. Basic White, even had a test run with results just a few days ago. Search button, Search button, Search button, Search button, get the idea!
