Well this past weekend I mounted my first elk. Everything turned out good, but I had problems with the ears. I ordered earliners with earbutts ( I'll never do that again ) and really had a lot of trouble with the darn things not staying where they were supposed to. I tried putting drywall screws way down in the ear canal and screwing it right to the form, but they were way off as far as the right angle, so I took the screws back out and tried shoving some more clay in there to hold them. Needless to say, I'm still not satisfied with the way they are staying put. Could I take a large hypodermic needle and some thinned down epoxy and inject it up around the bases of the ears in the hopes of getting them to set up? I always have used earliners without the butts on them for my deer and now I know why. HELP !

I have had the same problems. It will take some time, it's just that the hide is so thick that it takes awhile for the moisture in the epoxy or whatever is holding the earliner to the mannikin to evaporate and harden. I just used some 3 inch finish nails, tacked them through the earliner, positioned the ear, and pounded it in. Within four or five days, the epoxy was all hardened up and stiff as a board. hope this helps.
