Pedestal Forms

I am going to use one of Joe Coombs new boar pedestal forms( pivot pedestal). Couple of questions, First on a normal form you can just screw the form to your stand, but on the pedestal there is no flat spot on the back to secure the form to the stand. Second after it is mounted what are some of your ideas on covering up the back to get a nice look and not a jagged or a bumpy look. Thanks in advance......

I am in no way an expert, but this is how I do it...

Make your base first and determine the angle you want your hog. Mark the spot and drill a hole into your form where you want the rod to go. Also, you will need to drill a hole in the base so the rod can fit into it easily. Make sure you drill at the proper angle or you will end up with a leaning piggie. Once the angles are set up right, I bondo the rod into the base first. Then I take plastic (like a baggie) and cover the other end of the rod that will go inside the hog form. I pour bondo into the hole in the form and let it set up. After it has set, remove the rod from the form. It will slip right out thanks to the bag.

On my work bench I have a hole the size of the rod. If you had some extra rod that you cut to get the form snug against the base, just use that. Otherwise, I have an extra rod just in case I screw up. Take that rod and insert it into the hole in the work bench. Simply slide the pig on the rod as you would if you were putting it on the base rod. From there mount as usual and have fun. You can also reverse the rod procedure if you like- that way the rod is bondoed (is that a word?) to the pig form and just slides into the base.

For the back I use obscene amounts of All Game or Sculpt All to create the look I want.

Have fun and I hope that helps!
