Last weekend I mounted a nice buck and everything Ive learned on here and hard work paid off big time for me and in my humble opinion he looks great...so much in fact that looking at my first deer I want to re do his eyes. My first deer mount is a good looking deer but the eyes make me sick and I want to redo them.
I know that he was tanned well and that I can wet them down with a soaked rag over a couple of days but can I do this with out tearing down the whole mount? I want to thin the eyes and trim the tucked skin down knowing I tucked a lot more than was actually nessesary and I need to retuck the tear ducts.
I think I can thin the eyes with my dremel with the mount intact but will I destroy my clay work in the process or will the clay rehydrate as well as the skin?
It seems like a doable project but would appreciate any advise or tips.

Pin the cloth in place and then put a plastic bag over the head, rewet as needed. Chech it a couple times a day, sooner or later it will soften so you can work it.
You may wish to plastic bag the head for the first few days of drying to give yourself time to adjust the eyes.
I too have had the same experience. I am a 2 year beginner. I was told to try it and I did. Rebuilding the clay work through the eye takes some patience, but it can be done. I am living proof that there is no time like the present to learn.
If you are using Latex tube paints or oil based pants why not go
to Wall-Marts and get the same brand paints for under one-half the
price of most taxidermy supply co. I do it and I thought maybe it
might help someone else save some dollors.I also have some cheap
paint brushes, which I found good as any!
