Has anybody ever done a european mount on any animal that was still in velvet? If so, what do I need to know to protect the velvet?

IF you had, it would have told you that the only way to successfully pull that off is to index the antlers, cut them off, do the skull/freeze dry the antlers, and then reattach them at the index points. Amazing what you'll find in those archives.
