How many days do I need to salt my Elk cape? Does the cape have to be dried hard befor I can put it in the pickle?

Michelle, Like most other things taxidermy there is more than one way. I prefer to dry my capes completely. I salt, next day shake out and resalt, then let dry- takes several days for an elk in my shop(humidity is in control). You can speed it up by salting more times as new salt pulls most moisture when it is first applied but this is extra expense. A fan will speed it up as well. Enjoy, Aaron H.
