John, try my old standby

It's linseed oil/turpentine mixed 50/50. You can add some oak or light walnut stain to the mix if you'd like, but I'd try it plain first. Paint it on, let set for half an hour, wipe off excess.

50/50 WILL IT WORK ON ANTLER

Steve, I always use it on my completed mounts

It gives a soft, natural luster to the antlers and if you leave it on overnight, it's often completely absorbed the next morning. Now it's not meant to STAIN the antlers, though it will somewhat. For bleached out antlers, I still use potassium permanganate, but after staining them, I quickly paint them with the 50/50 to eliminate the harsh lines sometimes staining leaves and to give color contour to the tips versus the main beams.
