Using a meat saw

Anyone know how to get a meat saw to cut straight? I have a couple of them and find them all but useless for making a straight cut. I have better luck with a carpenter's hand saw, but this method is too slow, and involves too much work. I know one guy who uses a chain saw on moose horns. It's fast quick and straight. The blades are probably too loose on my meat saws which could be contributing to the crooked cut problem. Thanks for your help.....Steve

i use a 12in wood blade and it works great! you will find it an indispensable tool around the shop. cutting large lifesize forms for alterations etc.

I think you answered your own question.

Anytime a saw cuts crooked it's almost always because of either a dull blade or a loose blade.

Mine cuts crooked too...

It's a brand new blade and I've tightened it as tight as it will go, but the blade still wants to turn with any kind of pressure. It's a cheapo Cummins meat saw that I picked up for $199 bucks though. I've got the clearnace down as low as it will go too - doesn't matter. Luckily, I only use it to cut styrafoam for fish bodies. Works fine for this. I use my circular saw for any necessary wood cuts. I'd probably use a chopper or table saw to cut wood if I had one...

Cut on the pull stroke

The blades on a meat saw only cut one way. The blade will want to bend if you have the teeth facing forward to cut when you push the saw away from you. I have my meat saws so they cut on the pull stroke when I am bringing the saw twards me. Good luck..
