must hang elk head on wall

Submitted by martha on 10/18/04 at 10:31 PM. ( )

My dad killed an elk last fall and has gotten it shipped to MS from MT. It is sitting on the floor in their den. I need to know how in the world to hang it on the wall while he is on another trip! They have vaulted ceilings and deer heads hanging in there already. I have sense enough to know it must be on a stud but this thing is HEAVY! I don't want it to fall. Help. Please.

Call a carpenter.

There are a wide varity of hollow wall anchours that will work.

Any way near the floor with a ice pick or with a stud finder, find the stud, then use a 20d called a 20 penny nail. Its going to take some hammering to drive it in but you can do it.

Even call a local lumber yard there may be a hamdyman around that can help you for a few bucks.

Dont use a nail

I would not use a nail. You run a risk of breaking the sheetrock seems when nailing. I would suggest a 1/4" or 5/16" lag bolt that is about 3" long. Make sure you screw this into the stud and also check that you have a heavy enough wall anchor.

not rocket science

people hang elk mounts every day. 1/4 or 5/16 lag in a stud will do fine.
