it has gotten cold here in Iowa know and there is no way to have the horns Rot off of the skull cap ok and Just having them laying around waiting for them to loosen up enough to remove from the skull cap is not working since the meat seems to be drying on them this might be a dumb question But could a person put the horns and skull cap in a oven on low heat how a while other then that I Have put enough water in the tub at the shop to cover it all in hopes that that will help loosen them up any help or Ideas would be great thanks for any input you may have

This worked for me

I have a similar problem working here in Alaska--it's too cold outside to rot off Dall sheep horns. I work out of the garage, and it's poorly heated, so even that's not a good option. Luckily, my wife's a very understanding hunting buddy and biologist, so a little funk doesn't upset her too much (LOL).

I took the skull cap and set it carefully down in a large trash bag. I then wrapped the horn bases in a big wad of dripping wet paper towels to add the necessary moisture to support bacterial growth. I then sealed that bag tightly, and added 3 more heavy duty trash bags around that, sealing each one individually as I went.

I carefully placed the entire package in a plastic tub (in case anything accidentally leaked out) in the warmest part of my house-the laundry/furnace room (about 68 - 72 degrees), with strict instructions to all "Don't Touch!.

No problems at all. No funk got through the layers of plastig bags, and in a few weeks, I went outside and popped the horns off the cores. Now THAT was funky, but there's nothing I can do about that! LOL. Hope this helps...
