My question is about how thin to shave a Black Bear hide for a shoulder mount, I searched the orange button and did get a few pointers, When I fleshed the hide I got into the hair folicles in a few places, some I could pull the hair through so I know this will need repaired, on a few of the others the hair still seams tight, I was wondering if these areas are prone for hair loss or if the hide will lock them and keep them in place when it dries? On the thinning question, Am I wrong in thinking that only the neck and face area has hide that is thick and needs to be thinned, When I scraped and fleshed the hide you could see alot of the hair folicles through the skin on a large part of the hide, does these areas need to be thinned?

The body skin should be a black speckled blue when "shaved". I seldom get agressive there, but the neck, nape, and top of the head will need some work. Use a good hide paste and those follicles you exposed will be locked down to the form keeping the hair intact.
