I am planning on mounting a buck on a 7x18 1/2 cape. I am planning on testing out some Krowtann on the cape to see how it works. THe thing is that I only have very basic skinning and fleshing tools, and shaving the skin thinner presents a real problem, because in the amount of time it takes for me to do that, there would be the possibility of bacterial contamination. I was wondering if the cape would shrink if I didn't thin it (I WILL remove all the fat and flesh), and if maybe I should order a 7 x 18 instead? I used a long incision, going all the way down the back of the neck. So, will the skin shrink up on me and not be it's origional size, or should I try a little smaller to ensure a good fit.
Thanks

has awesome stretch but all capes will shrink down a little if left to dry. if you rehydrate it and relax it in kemal-4 it will stretch the 1/2 in for the 18 1/2 form. might have to do some yankin to get it shut. but once its softened up they stretch ALOT... i usualy order the exact size or slightly smaller if exact is not available. im not a pro but i do 150 heads a year and havent had one yet that i couldnt stretch on my for even if was a little to big
i forgot to warn you if you dont thin the face you'll lose alot of detail and the nose pad might look fat. and also if you do get the smaller size yes the cape will shrink to it. be careful to pin the face good if your going to let it shrink down
