Search button about the pedicles on lopes didnt say much. What do I need to do to them. Got the horns off, yes they stink, lots of bacteria. I will borax those but what do you need to do to the pedicles before setting horns back on them?

Thanks

Degrease

Degrease well, follow with a soak in Dawn/water......just thirty minutes or so. Allow to dry. You may wish to scour with a stiff brush and a Citric based cleaning agent prior to degreasing. Smell will go away as soon as you remove the germ food.

I torch mine

After I slip the horns off the cores, I fill the horn with Touchstone's Bess Maid DP and let it set overnight. This "sweetens" them. I let the cores dry and then cut about half of them off with a pair of shears. Then I take my propane torch and singe the hairs away. I do this OUTSIDE of course, but it gets rid of the hairs that would have eventually made a new casing. Then I let them dry for a couple weeks. No smell.
