What is the best way to rehydrate a hard african tanned cape.

Use a salt brine solution and lots of bacteriacide such as Rydels, soak for 3 or 4 hours and check the relaxation progress, if getting soft then you can thin the harder areas and continue to soak, until all areas are thinned and somewhat relaxed then rinse and soak in soapy water and wash and thin again always using bacteriacide, process might take 24 hours, or just send to the tannery and let them do it for you.

It doesn't sound like it was tanned, that is why i recommend it the above, if it is truly tanned just soak in water and bacteriacide for 30 minutes and check if it is soft, if the face and ears are hard but the rest is soft then wrapp the ears with wet towels put it in a plastic bag overnight and refrigerate, also the nose needs a wet towell to soften the tissue left.
