Hello all,
I am working on my first deer and have a question on the earliners I got. The ear butt on the liners is alot larger than the ear butt mark on my form.
The ear liner fits the ear well but not sure how to make it look nice on the form. Thought about trimming it down but not sure if it would help cause then I have no earbutt. Should I just order some buttless liners and go from there or can I make these work?
I have pre fitted them in the ears and they look great but the deer is a small buck and the ear butt looks to be huge on the side of its head lol. Any tips would be helpful.
Take care,Andrew

on the form are a guide line not a rule.
if the liner fits the ear properly, trust the sculpter to have made the butt the correct size and shape. the guys that scupt and mold these things are light years ahead of us. lol.
i noticed the same thing your saying on my first couple but after mounting the butts look great. be careful with the back position making sure you put the ear in the proper place on the form or else you will have pointy "horns" behind the head in between the ears.
chances are your butts are the right size. but if you want to trim them go ahead. did you remove the cartilage? make sure you do or use a good epoxy and a cartilage liner. good luck and have fun.

Yup Brad I took the cartilage out just wasnt sure about the butts they dont sit on the form very well at all will take abit of clay to sculpt in. Aslo I have tesest them on another deer I have to mount and they fit great on the form but that one is a McKenzie form. The form its not going as well is from Research but thats the style the person wanted and was only one I found that would fit guess next time I will tell her shoot a bigger deer lol its my sister so gotta give alittle bit of a hard time =).
I always trim the bases on earliners to get them to fit flush to the form and at the angle and pitch i want out of the ears. Then put a small hump of clay about as wide as the base of your earliner on the form, and another ring of clay around the earliner. Then when you position the ears you can push the liners down into the clay and model the clay under the skin to blend it in and make the proper muscle lines.
