I,m about to start on a longhorn head mount.

This will be basically for my own experence, and from what I understand , it will be "quite" an experence!

I have a quite a bit of experence capeing and mounting deer heads, but this will be my first time on a longhorn.

any pointers or suggestions on my project would be greatly appreciated, especially the capeing and handeling of the horns.

thanks, Lil Beaver

Horns come off

Skin comes off. If you want a really good job, throw out all you know about deer mounts, except for the eyes, mouth, nose and ears. There is a lot of loose skin on one, and to do it right, you need to build back those folds and laps well to pull it off. It isn't the worst mount you will ever do, trust me. I don't know what all the noise is about them, except they require a bit more than pasting on a finished form.

Check into good reference photos of whatever your mounting and keep them at your bench while working. You see the wrinkles that cur is talking about. Avoid mounted specimens if you can. you dont wantto copy mistakes that someone else might have made.
