dry salting/ krowtan

I am wanting to try the new krowtan 2000 on a few deer capes. Has anyone tried this after your capes have been salt dried ? I would like to continue with this salting process as it saves a lot of freezer space and its advantage with hair slipping. Also will i get the same amount of strech doing it this way as compaired to no salting. YES I DID USE THE LITTLE ORANGE ICON BUT FOUND NOTHING THERE. ALL COMMENTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED thanks for the help,
don

salt/krowtann

So many here bragging about the krowtann, that I just had to try it. I salted my capes for the same reason you do. I krowtanned 2 of them for a trial. They did fine. I would suggest you rehydrate them in the brine/bacteriacide solution first. Don't rehydrate in the krowtann. My only complaint was a little excess shrinkage as the mounts dried(I don't think this had anything to do with salt drying first).

thanks

Thanks for the reply; I have the same concerns using lu-tan with shrinkage. You hear a lot about good strech with the krowtan. just wondering if its the same as the hide in raw state.

No, you don't get as much stretch as you would with a raw cape. BP

in krowtann and just left it there to tan - no problems - you DO NOT have as much stretch with kt and with lutan - i use them both
