Setting lips and form prep

So, when you guys prep your form for the lips what do you do? I have been trying a real tiny drill bit and make as small a groove in the foam as possible. I just wonder if you guys do anyhting diferent? anyone use a large groove and clay to shape?
do you build up the scull cap around the horn burrs a lot?
I have done half a dozen heads and want to improve on some areas. I am mostly a fish man but am sick of not making good money on them, heads are the best!

Epoxy it onto a piece of antler for a handle. This is all you need and gives YOU 100% control in cutting the lips slot. Make the slot wider at the back corners of the mouth as you have more skin there to tuck.Use Apoxie Sculpt to build up the antler burrs, there is a lot of flesh there from rubbing, plus proper thinning of the cape, you need something.Once you feel easy about what you are doing a 2 part hide paste will do the job and hold the skin in place.

Just as the name implies. Hey,that's what it's made for. I use mine to cut the slot (after I first score it with a parring knife) and to also tuck the skin when mounting. Marc R

first cut the lip slot with a pairing knife, then cut it with a slim, fine toothed saw blade. hope this helps!

I just finish a short course with a guy and he told me that if you cut a slot in the mouth you have to be almost exact on the width. What he showed me is ,score it with a knife as above and then take an awl and push it in until your desired width and then go around the mouth.By doing this the foam in the form acts like a sponge and will push back together so when you are tucking in the lips they will stay in place until the job is done and also creates a very tight looking mouth opening.I have tried it on a few animals since and it works really well.He also said to do this for the tear duct.He said the only place to actually cut or drill is the nostrils.
