I need to gain about 6 inches of clearance from the wall. Is this too much to gain by altering and tipping the head down or is there a better suggestion out there?

I've not personally dealt with this scenerio but have seen this question a few time in the past few years on the forum. If you'll type "elk antler clearance georoof" or "elk antler clearance" in the search you will find some ideas that may lead you to the method you feel most comfortable with trying. Good Luck! I read some of the suggestions in the archives. My main concern is it seems like they extend quite a bit beyond the back of the form, and how much is too much to fix by altering the angle of the head.
I don't see many elk here east of the Mississipi. Before I end up with a pile of elk form foam on the floor I hoped to hear from somebody who has been there and done that who says: "six inches is/is not too much to gain from changing the angle of the head".
i have altered them that much with no problems. i think full sneaks are the better choice to do this with though. dont forget you will gain an inch after he is mounted because of the hide on the back board. email me if you need more help

lay your form (back side down) on a piece of 3/4" plywood. trace out the shape of the back of your form onto the plywood and cut it out with a jigsaw. add a 2" spacer in between the back of the form and the cutout and check to see if thats enough to get the antlers away from the wall. if not, make the space wider. when its wide enough, fill the gap with 2 part foam and your ready. this method only works if your cape is long enough to accommodate the extra length.
Scott, Bill has the idea but also consider that often the problem is mostly on one side. If this is the case you can fix it sometimes by changing the angle of the back board giving the form a bit of offset to the shoulder. A combination of length and offset can be the solution as long as there is enough cape of course and even a lesser head tilt alteration could be used if you still need a little more clearance. Also don't forget that adding a panel will set it out a little as well. Enjoy, Aaron H.
