I currently have a mountain lion that may make the Boone and Crockett record book. Will boiling the skull cause more shrinkage than maceration?

You should do absolutely nothing with the skull until it is officially scored. Skulls shrink naturally as they dry. that is why there is a wait time before scoring. Best have it scored and then do whatever.
If you have a B& C cougar skull do as Cur says. Don't do anything to it until it is scored. In the meantime read up on the skull cleaning article on hidetanning.net. The last thing I would do to a B&C skull is boil it.
