im doing my first bear as a head mount and ran into a hang up.i fleshed it,turned it and salted it but it doesnt want to dry.i salted it 4 times (and was get'n no moisture the last time) then hung it to dry.problem is it wont dry right.seems like there is oil coming out of the skin.it hasnt started to slip and its been a week ....should it be ok? have any of you ran into this problem? ive also had a fan on it the whole time its been hanging. thanks.

Bears are notoriously greasy . When your ready for salt it is very important that you have worked the fat off of the hide . Salt will not penetrate through, which eventaully leads to slippage . I like to process our bears as quickly as possible, salt twice with a fan going the whole time then send it off to the tannery . I usually send them off in kind of a half dry state . If your planning on doing the tannning yourself I would start the process or send it off asap . Chances are if you removed all the fat and salted a couple times its probably okay but I still like to get bears tanned before I the stress goes away . Good luck.
