Please don't tell me to search the archives, I have. I know all the chemicals and the details behind each one. I just am unsure of the average time it takes to degrease a skull. (lets say, a black bear)
If I use acetone, how long should the skull be soaked?
If I use dawn dish soap how long should the skull be soaked?
How much dawn do you use for 5 gal.?
In the archives, I read Rittels super solvent takes 30 Min. Is this true? I haven't used it before but if I can degrease a nasty bear skull in 30 minutes I'll run and get it.
How long for simple green?
I soaked a black bear skull in dawn and water for three days and it wasn't long enough.

I usually leave a bear skull in for two weeks in acetone. I've used the Rittels, even for a day and did not have that good of results.
Every animal is different. Start by experimentation. that's the best way to see what works best for you and how long it takes to get the results you want. The archives cover all the issues but the bottom line is that the answers are up to you, example, it takes longer than three days for a black bear to degrease in dawn...check it every day and let us know how long it takes before you get the results that you want ... there is no magic bullet! A friend of mine thats been in the business a long time and is teaching me the ropes just recently answered one of my questions with this statement, It's not rocket science. I got the point.
I do a LOT of bear skulls and each one is different. Take about 1/2 to 1 cup of dawn in a 5 gallon bucket, leave the skull in until the water turns brown. Change out the water and do it again until you can saok the skull for a week and the water stays clean.
