Bison Horn Q,s

I received two bison skulls from a customer after they sat in his barn for about 2-3 weeks. I cut around the base of the horns & double bagged them to sweat. It's been 2 more weeks & they still aren't budging. Any thought on how to remove them? They are for european mounts. Thanks in advance for any help.

Richard. I recieved a buffalo this fall. I let them go about 4 weeks in a bag, until they got stinky and there was a slimy liquid in the bag. I had them sitting in a warm spot in my shop. I brought them outside and had a bucket of water with me. I just took the individual horns out of the bag and put it in the water to rinse some of the slime off . as soon as they were in the water for a minute they popped no problem. There wasn't any problem with them at all. I filled them with borax and put them aside. Now there isnt any smell and they are ready to mount. Good luck

Just Boil them & hit em with

a large hammer or mallet.

Why take weeks to do something that can be done in one day.

Buffalo skulls are extreemly tough & you cant hurt them by properly boilng them.

On the other hand if you want to deal with the stink & waisting time, use a plastic bag in the sun for a few more weeks.
