I am having trouble with the instruction I recieved . I'm wondering if you can trust your eye, or if this is a nessescary tool for taxidermy in general. the level in question is from Research Mannikins. Thanks for your time and any input, I really appreciate it.

works graet just make sure your mannikin is level side to side and level front to back put a level on the back panel and eye socket to eye socket.
I've learned late in life that the old crap of leveling the form and leveling the eyes is just a waste of time. Set your form as you intend it to be set against a wall or in a diorama. Then, looking from the nose of the animal, set your eyes until they LOOK correct. Back off from the form and look again, this time using a strong light source. That's the way judges will judge your work. They won't use protractors, calipers, or eye levels, they'll use their sight to insure the eyes have a focal point and they LOOK normal and natural. The very best work will have "eye rotation" anyway and all the levels in the world won't work on that little trick of making it appear the animal is cutting its eyes in one direction or the other. Let your senses be your level. It doesn't cost a cent.
thanks George, I'll do that.
