After simmering my last skull I found it came out very clean and I got all of the meat out. The teeth on the other hand stayed in their cavity and are still tight. Do I need to remove them or can I just leave them in?

Mike, the teeth should be taken out. If the teeth didn't fall out there is still some "flesh" in the sockets. Some people say that it is ok but, my opinion is they will fall out when the skull is clean.
Ive never forced the teeth to come out on skulls I boil and have never had a problem 9I hate replacing the teeth). However you would be wise to coat the skull (or any skull for that matter) with a fungicidal sealer at the least, after it is dry. What little meat there is in the tooth sockets isnt much and if you do a bleaching and whitening soak it should take care of any problems you could have in the future. Just make sure the rest of the skull is clean.
On what type of skull it is. I find that with carnivores, the teeth will generally come right out, except in the case of older animals where the canines just stay put. On deer, moose, bufflao, etc, some of the teeth may come out, some may not. I do not force these type of teeth out, as you can damage the delicate bone around them.
