Tanning oil and hide paste

Maybe a dumb question but
if tanning oil is use to soften and give stretch to a deer cape
won't it also prevent the hide paste , Epo-Grip or whatever from binding the hide to the form?

But the fact is that the oil should be INSIDE the skin and not on it. Once the oil is applied, it absorbs into the hide. Excess oil should be washed off before you attempt to mount the animal.

Though I probably do suffer fools badly, I haven't noticed a significant number of missing "cheeks" in the industry. Cecil is missing a few parts, but those are the sign of being a self-made man and not congenital.
