2200 lb bull steer

I did a show last weekend and a guy wanted to know if I could do a shoulder mount of his bull. I told him yes and shot him an estimate of 750$. He said he'd think about it, he still has to kill him. Anyhow I got to thinking and looking around through the magazines. There is not a whole lot of size options for these beasts. Maybe its not such a good idea for me to take it on afterall. As stupid as this sounds the guy was pretty attached to his bull. I don't do pets. What do you guys think have you ever done one?

you need to charge higher

you need to charge more than that. that is jus my opinion. a couple of reasons. 1st of all its a really big animal to deal with. youll probaly need two guys to remove it from the skull. 2nd it'll take alot of time to try and alter the form, due to the fact that their arent to many steer forms on the market. i know that Van Dykes carries them though. and especially if that is his pet you'll have more expectations for that animal to come out perfect. oh 1 more thing, the rising costs of manikin prices. godd luck!

I got

2,400 for a brahman shoulder mount, do you know how much the head skin weighs ,just in shipping your looking at 250 from my area to houston tannery, your way off in your pricing.

multiply times 3.5 and you will be in the ball park on price

Cow hide is much harder to flesh than deer and the weight is going to get you.

Plus boiling the horns loose, you need a barral and propane fire.

Tanning the cape $200. shipping to and from the tannery $100.
Form, eyes, $300. you are already in the minus, nice doing business with ya!

My steers that I do are not this big. I am doing a 1650 pounder for $775. I do not boil the horns, I let them rot off, easier and cheaper. If this is your first one and you want to do it I say go for it. After one you will know how much to charge. Tanning $150, form and materials about $200.
