I am doing a wolf rug, I got the hide from the customer and it is already tanned and the hide is broken and oiled but the paws and face are stiff and will need to be relaxed before I can taxi them. I read in a book that to relax it just soak him in water for 8-10 hours, any longer may cause slipping. My question is should I use a relaxing solution from a supply house or just soak in water. I have never done a rug on a hide that I had to re-hidrate.
Thanks in advance!

Put a handful of salt per gallon of water. Soak for about 30 minutes and let drain a little bag it up in a trash bag and put in the refridgerator overnite. That should sweat it out and it should be softened up.
