When putting large forms such as laarge elk and moose forms together because they are always shipped in two pieces is it necessary to hollow out a section and foam in a two by four? Usually on smaller forms I only use bondo, but on bigger ones, I usually bondo the edges and foam the 2X 4 into the center- it makes a lot of work but it isn't something I want to experiment with. Could anyone who has done a lot of these tell me if it is necessary to do the extra work or is it just overkill? What about using the elmers ultimate urethane glue to connect these large forms- is it better than bondo and can you skip the two by four?

If your shipping them always do it, if it's yours then you know how to handle it. skipping the 2 by 4 's on a clients piece is just something waiting to come back and bite you. We put one is every elk, cape buffalo, eland, moose, kudu, sable, Sheep, ect, shoulder and lifesize. guarenteed never to break.
Even the McKenzie catalog endorses only Bondo holding an elk form along with 100 pounds of something on the head. I use long, home-made pins to align the form, pull them out, glue both surfaces, repin and let set overnight. Haven't had a problem YET.
Honk out some foam, insert a 2x2, cut out a feeder path for the foam to be poured in, and pin and screw the parts together with rod and long drywall screws. Pour foam, then rasp. Pull the rods, and sink the screws.
Ive done quite a few elk and never put a 2 by them. No problems, ever.
Basicly the same way as Bill does it,if done properly it is solid foam again.
