ever freeze dried a small mammal head to keep as reference? I am thinking about doing this with a coyote head because I seem to mount a good bit of them. I just got a coyote today that wasn't worth a darn but I got to playing with the lips and ears and the nose and thought, HMMMM. Wonder if I could have this thing freeze dried and keep it to study for reference? I know I could make death mask but it just seems it would be neater to have that way. I really was suprised on this yote how far his fangs stuck out withhis muth closed. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dan Hudzik

I borrowed an open mouth,freeze-dried coyote head from a friend when doing some special open mouth projects.Though somewhat shrunken,it was a ton of help and I used it when working on foxes and other animals too.The last shop I worked in had a freeze-dried elk muzzle that was just awesome when drilling out the nostrils on deer elk etc.I think it's a great idea.I think once you got into it you would want more than one. They are pretty neat.
dried my mother in law because her feet kept pushing the freezer door open
why not make a death mask with a fresh head. You will have a casting of a head for reference that won't shrink or distort
I know I can do that. My 2nd sentence from the bottom of that post, I put that I know I can make a death mask but I wanted to know if anyone has done this and how they like it. Thanks, Dan
