Hello,
I have a colony of dermestid beetles and they are doing fine, just finishing their first deer skull. The beetles are doing fine but i was wanting to get another colony started and maybe try something different. I have my first colony in pine bedding only because that is what they arrived in. I was wondering if anyone knew the best housing conditions, and the best substrate to house them in. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You,
Matt

The Skull Doctors house their bugs in plactic shipping crates with flip top lids inside a heat regulated transport truck trailer. The bugs cant crawl up on slick surfaces and they do great in the proper temp and humidity. Give the Skull Doctor a call at 541-660-8950 i'm sure the can give you some good advise.
I keep mine in a 33 Gallon RubberMaid garbage can which has a hook in the middle of the lid to hang a light from. I use shreded newspaper as bedding material and a piece of styrofoam(SP) for them to bore into. Seem to be doing well. The light keeps it between 75-80 degrees
