dark spots on skull

Submitted by Jack on 4/15/05 at 9:37 PM. ( )

Have any of you had problems with dark spots not get white on your skulls. I have a deer and bear skull that were cleaned by beetles, degreesed, and soaked in peroxide and painted with peroxide cream twice and the spots dont seem to be getting any better. most skulls I dont have any problems with. It looks like the dark spots are deep in the bone. I am pretty sure it will come out after a few more applacations. Just wondering if experts have had this problem or have any idea's Thanks Jack

Not degreased

My guess would be that it was not properly degreased in the first place. Those dark spots are usually grease spots, in my experience.

the bug person in are area told me that if the skull dried out before the bugs are done, that the blood in the bone would show through. She said that when this problem occurs she increases the humity to the room the bugs are in and it usually solves the problem. So keeping the skulls mosit through the process is important, don't allow them to dry out until the process is complete. Sounds good anyway. Good Luck.
