Getting the hair to a smooth/shining and soft state

Submitted by Joey on 5/13/05 at 12:11 PM. ( )

I mounted a deer cape last week. After I pulled it out of the freezer I washed it off with some degreaser and dawn. But after drying it still seems to have a tannign oil touch to it.
How can I get it soft and smooth like I see at the conventions?

Most piece you see in competition are probably short haired (early season) capes, they lay down very nicely. The key to getting any cape to lay down smooth is to make sure it fits the form right and is aligned right. When you force a cape on a form that is too large, the hair will stand up in places, it needs to have a nice relaxed fit.

You can spray and wipe it down with some cape sheen type product after the mount is dry and brushed out.
