Yellow DALL SHEEP HIDE-- help

Submitted by Tad Crawford on 7/16/05 at 6:33 PM. ( tcrawfo1@neo.rr.com ) 24.166.119.140

Have a lifesize fannin with lots of dark hairs...hide commercially tanned..came back very yellow all over...what a mess! Bleached once with basic white and still yellow....Hide was done at Advantage in Dallas. Has anyone out there had this problem with their tanning on Dalls and what were you able to do about it? Thanks

Ps other than the white hides, their tanning is most satisfactory.

Without pictures, it's hard to judge yours, but up close a Dalls sheep is quite yellowish. Looks white from a distance. Any mounts that you see that are WHITE WHITE, were bleached to get that way. Not life like......

Crusty, Ever shot any dalls? I have and can tell you that this yellow is not even close to normal. If you'll give give me your email, I'll send some good color photos of the before and after tanning... Tad

had a good and informative article in Taxidermy Today Magizine 2 issues ago on whitening a dall. I'm sure if you call Van Dykes and talk to him he'd help you out with what you need ( he's a Van Dykes product specialist)

You could try

combing 20% developer through the hair but I dont know if it will effect the hair from slipping now or not?
