I have 5 Whitetail mounts that need a good cleaning. Can anyone tell me the best products to use that won't harm the capes. Thankyou!

Bruce, You probably won't get many responses to your question simply because if we recomend a certain product and things fall apart we become somewhat responsible. In my shop I do cleaning and refinishing of old mounts and I use many different products depending on the amount of dirt/smoke etc and the sturdiness of the mount. I can get pretty agressive on the cleaning if the mount seems solid but I wouldn't recomend doing what I do to individule mount owners. Some of the supply catalogs carry products for cleaning mounts (check "suppliers" above). Beyond light dusting the cleaning of older mounts is best left to your taxidermist as paint finish nose/eye work is usually damaged and will need re-doing after cleaning. The cost to clean a mount generally is not high--Aaron H.
