Velvet Caribou Antlers

I need some proven techniques for treating velvet covered caribou antlers. The antlers where already hard under the felt, and were injected immediately after the kill. For three days I wiped the antlers down with turpentine until the blood was not longer draining from the antler bases. Now I need some recommendations on how to preserve the velvet.

Roger, just what was the turpentine supposed to do?

Other than creating a greasy sticky mess? That crap has to come off there and never should have been there in the first place. On caribou, the injection method is about as far as it goes unless you want to strip it and send it to Research Mannikins for replacement with artificial velvet.
